TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook Indonesia's Kabupaten Tanggamus, Lampung Province, at 09:52 West Indonesia Time on Tuesday, July 12. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said it was a tectonic earthquake with no potentials for tsunami.

"BMKG's analysis results showed that the earthquake had a parameter update with a magnitude of 5.1," the BMKG's Earthquake and Tsunami Center head, Bambang Setiyo Prayitno, said on Tuesday.

The earthquake's epicenter was at 6.04° South Latitude and 104.27° East Longitude, approximately 77 kilometers southwest of Tanggamus at a depth of roughly 46 kilometers.

Bambang said that given the location of the epicenter and the depth of its hypocenter, the earthquake was a shallow one caused by plate subduction activities.

So far, there has been no report on damages. "The modeling results show that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami," Bambang said.

As of 10:30 West Indonesia Time, BMKG's monitoring showed no aftershock activities.

Bambang advised nearby residents to remain calm and only trust credible sources for information. He also reminded residents to avoid cracked or damaged buildings.
