TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s special staffer Dian Triansyah Djani on Thursday announced that Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has been invited to attend the G20 foreign minister’s meeting slated for July 7-8 in Bali.

“Yes, the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister has been invited and we surely are looking to see the minister’s presence here, either virtually or physically,” said Djani who is also the G20 Indonesia co-sherpa, June 30.

Even though Ukraine is not a member of the G20, Russia's invasion of its neighboring country had an impact on the world's economic order, especially on food and energy.

The war in Ukraine has sparked a dynamic at the G20 forum with Western countries proposing to Indonesia - as the G20 presidency in 2022 - to avert inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Bali summit.

The boycott of Russia also occurred at the ministry level. At the Treasury Secretary meeting in Washington D.C. Last April, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and her friends from G7 countries such as Canada and the UK, walked out while Russian representatives spoke.

Dian said so far all G20 members have registered, including Russia. However, the details of the countries that have registered cannot be disclosed to the public at this time due to security concerns.

When asked about the threat of a walkout from Western countries, Dian did not want to speculate. "I'm not the type of diplomat who will predict the future, see how it develops at the meeting," he said.
