TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The long-awaited electric bus fleet from Jakarta-owned bus service Transjakarta is officially in service by serving two routes on June 7.

Accordion to Transjakarta spokesperson Iwan Samariansyah, 27 of the units are from the 30 electric fleets owned by operator Mayasari with 16 serving commuters in the 1P route (Senen Terminal-Bunderan Senayan) and 11 units serving the 1N route (Blok M-Tanah Abang).

Under the existing contract with the Jakarta Transportation Agency, the remaining three units are kept as reserve units.

The electric bus fleet was initially scheduled to enter operations by the end of May but was slightly behind schedule as public charging station facilities were only completed by then.

Prior to this, the operation of the electric bus, which has gone through the procurement stage, came under the spotlight of the Director of the Committee for the Elimination of Leaded Gasoline (KPBB), Ahmad Safrudin.

According to him, the Transjakarta electric bus project had stalled up until May with only three electric buses operating at the time.
