TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani in a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) legislators had set the country’s infrastructure spending in 2023 to hover around Rp367.7 trillion to Rp 417.7 trillion. This effectively increases Indonesia’s spending on infrastructure following a recovery period in 2020 and 2021.

The fantastic financial estimation includes the country’s ambitious New Capital City of Nusantara project in East Kalimantan, Antaranews reported.

“We have started to build the New Capital in 2022 and surely in 2023 it will be accelerated,” said Sri Mulyani on May 31, “This is included in the state budget, especially for capital and infrastructure spending.”

The IKN development budget in 2023 will be directed to building important facilities, ranging from basic infrastructure to various main government facilities. The budget will be channeled through several ministries and institutions of the Ministry of PUPR, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Health, and the National Police.

"The budget is for the Ministry of Defense and the National Police because it must be designed from the beginning for aspects of security and defense facilities, as well as the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Health because education and health facilities must at least start early," the Finance Minister explained.

The Minister’s explanation adheres to President Jokowi's instructions as the prioritized infrastructures to be built next year are the ones that can be completed during the current government term, namely in 2023 or the first semester of 2024.
