TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded two separate earthquakes simultaneously happening in the early hours of Wednesday at 04:18 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) that struck the region of Liwa in Lampung (magnitude 5.5) and Bali-Lombok (magnitude 4.1).

The two quakes were only separated 38 seconds from each other but are not linked to each other, says BMKG Coordinator of Earthquake Mitigation and Tsunami, Daryono.

"That is the consequence of an active and complex seismic zone, indeed our earthquake sources are very numerous," the coordinator Tweeted on Wednesday.

He added that the two quakes’ epicenters were at sea with the Liwa quake happening 67 kilometers Southwest off the coast of Lampung at the depth (hypocenter) of 25 kilometers. Meanwhile, the Bali - Lombok earthquake had an epicenter 94 kilometers Southwest of West Lombok and at the depth of 24 kilometers.
