TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A spokesman for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, confirmed that the enforcement of the public activity restrictions or PPKM policy is still in effect today, May 9, 2022, as referred to the Home Affairs Ministerial Instructions No. 22/2022 and No. 23/2022.

“So today, it is still valid. Let’s wait for the government’s decision on the update of the policy,” said Wiku to Tempo on Monday.

He argued that the restrictions are necessary so long as active cases are found. Yet he stopped short of revealing the fate of the policy in the future. PPKM, he added, could be the basis for government regulations in dealing with the disease.

“PPKM is a vital policy instrument in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in regions,” Wiku remarked.

The latest PPKM policy in Java-Bali regions has been in effect for three weeks since it was announced on April 19, 2022. Only two regencies/cities were under Level 3 of the 4-tiered PPKM, 97 regencies/cities at Level 2, and 29 regencies/cities were at Level 1.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 curbs for regions outside Java-Bali was valid from April 26 and will end today. As many as 131 regions outside Java-Bali were at PPKM Level 1 and 216 regions at Level 2, and 39 regions at Level 3.
