TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi in a Tweet posted on Wednesday announced that she had communicated with the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry Dmytro Kuleba on Tuesday, April 26. Both Ministers discussed an array of topics, mainly the current development in war-torn Ukraine.

Minister Retno mentioned offers from Indonesia to provide humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian people but did not detail the form of aid that would be given.

“The current situation in Ukraine, which includes the humanitarian crisis,” the Tweet from @Menlu_RI on April 27. “I expressed Indonesia’s preparedness to provide humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian people.”

She said that Kuleba also agrees that negotiations need to come through with positive results and that Indonesia will try its best in its capacity to support a peaceful resolution to the devastating war with Russia.

Ukraine was invaded by Russia, which President Vladimir Putin touts as military aggression, on February 24. The war has killed thousands of people and displaced millions more from their homes.

The Kremlin denies targeting and killing civilians. But the Western countries, led by the U.S. Government, doubt it and condemn Moscow's actions by imposing sanctions and alienating Russian representatives in international forums.

Indonesia is one of the countries in the world that has not imposed sanctions against Russia and has let Russia’s membership in the G20 remain despite pressure from the West to remove the country.

Minister Retno Marsudi on multiple occasions strongly called for an end to the war in Ukraine during foreign visits and in international forums.
