TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria claimed there has been no major flood inundating the capital in 2022 thus far. He expressed gratitude that the city was safe due to various flood mitigation programs.

“We are really grateful that this year there is no significant flooding like in previous years. It's now already April 19 and there is almost no flood in Jakarta,” said Riza at Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, April 19.

According to him, the city administration has managed to develop flood control programs starting from the construction of dams, ponds, reservoirs, pump polders, dredging, water absorption, and other programs.

“Well, this indicates that we are quite good at dealing with floods. Hopefully, by the end of April, there will be absolutely no flooding. That is our hope,” Riza said.

However, a number of areas along the Ciliwung River were today inundated by floodwater from Bogor. The flood hit the coastal areas after the status of Katulampa Dam was declared on alert (Siaga) level 3 on Monday night.

Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that there were no people evacuated in the wake of the flooding in East Jakarta and South Jakarta.

Responding to this, Riza Patria said he had deployed officers to contain the flood. “SDA (Water Resources Agency) continues to contain the flood so that the water recedes immediately,” he said.
