TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Heavy rains showered Bekasi for more than two hours and caused flooding on Tuesday afternoon, April 5. Several areas both roads and residential sites were reported to be flooded.
As of 5:00 p.m., Jalan Raya Imam Bonjol in West Cikarang was not accessible by motorized vehicles due to the flooding with the height of an adult’s calf feet.
Roads under the JORR Kalimalang Toll Road in Jakasampurna, West Bekasi were also inundated. The knee-deep floodwater forced many road users to stop their journey.
“It's quite high, it can't even be passed,” said a road user who wanted to go to Bekasi from Jakarta.
Floods also inundated Jalan Raya Jatimulya, South Tambun District at a height of nearly 30 centimeters. Not a few motorcyclists turned off their vehicle machines and pushed their vehicles down the flood roads because of traffic jams.
As for residential areas, flooding was observed in the Grand Galaxy complex. The floodwater also covered the streets.
The worst flood point in Bekasi was reported at the IKIP Lecturer Complex, Jatiasih. “The water level reaches 95 centimeters at IKIP,” said Dhika, a Bekasi Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) volunteer in a statement today afternoon.
