TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in Monday's press conference in Bali expressed his optimism that Indonesia’s goal of attracting 1.4 million tourists from Australia will be met after spending nearly one week in the country.

He said that during his visit there Australians were highly enthusiastic towards the prospect of visiting Bali, Antaranews reported.

“I can see the resurgence ahead of us, the recovery of the tourism and creative economy sector, and surely the creation of job opportunities for the people,” said the Minister on Monday, April 11.

Jetstar, an Australian airline, has reportedly operated three direct flights to Bali, three times per week from Melbourne and Sydney, and daily from Perth.

One example is the Jetstar Australia flight from Sydney to Denpasar Bali on April 10, 2022, which was fully loaded with a total of 335 passengers. This condition is predicted to last for the next few weeks considering that Australia is entering the Easter holiday period.

Sandiaga believed the rising demand from Australian tourists is attributable to the much more relaxed travel policies the Indonesian government introduced.

“Such as the quarantine-free facility, no PCR arrival tests, and expanding visa on arrivals for 43 countries, which include Australia,” he explained.

Bali Deputy Governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana acknowledged the Minister’s attention towards the resort island, saying “Bali is ready to welcome tourists just like the pre-COVID-19 days.”
