TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian central statistics agency, BPS, announced a surplus of US$3.83 billion for February's trade. During the month, Indonesia recorded a total export of US$20.46 billion and an import value of US$16.63 billion.

BPS chief Margo Yuwono said that Indonesia has recorded trade surpluses for 22 consecutive months. "Hopefully this surplus trend will stay in the future so that Indonesia's economic recovery can be maintained," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, March 15.

Margo said non-oil and gas commodities that contributed the biggest surplus in February 2022 were mineral fuels, vegetable fats, and animal oils, as well as iron and steel.

The biggest surpluses recorded in February came from trades with the United States for a value of US$1.86 billion, followed by India with US$850.8 million, and the Philippines with US$725.9 million.

However, Indonesia also experienced trade deficits with several nations in February. With China, the deficit was the biggest with US$909.4 million, followed by Thailand with US$403.6 million, and Australia with US$403.6 million.
