TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo during a government meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday quipped recent rumors about opposition against Indonesia’s capital city relocation from Jakarta to East Kalimantan discussed among military members via Whatsapp groups.

President Jokowi decided to address the issue - which he believes could turn worrying if left unaddressed - in the meeting attended by Armed Forces (TNI) and Police higher-ups.

The former Jakarta governor requested the two institutions to practice self-discipline and become an example for members of the public.

“Soldiers or policemen cannot participate in democratic issues,” he asserted on March 1. “Be cautious with these types of problems, it starts small and would later become bigger. We must discipline the TNI and police.”

In an attempt to convey his message of discipline even further, Jokowi mentioned how TNI soldiers can only be disciplined by their respective leaders. "The military has its own rules. The military disciplinary code (TNI) is essentially the point if we look at it, the point is that loyalty is upright," said Jokowi.
