TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in a statement on Tuesday said the film industry has become a sub sector that has proved to absorb workers.
“It has a multiplier effect to accelerate economic recovery and contribute to community empowerment and independence,” the minister wrote on February 22, Antaranews reported.
He mentioned this after 215 films were registered at the Family Sunday Movie (FSM), a short film festival the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry initiated on February 2 and lasted for 11 days until February 12.
Sandiaga Uno argues that a community will need at least 30 people to work on producing one movie, and with the number of short films submitted, the average people working to make movies in the FSM amount to 6,450.
The Minister said he is pleased with the enthusiasm shown by festival participants and said it signals the rise of the creative economy. He also claims the FSM is one of the Ministry’s successful programs as it benefits the perfect target audience, filmmakers in outer regions.
"Through FSM, regional filmmakers have a place to distribute their work, equal opportunities, experience competition, hone skills to produce even better work, and open up opportunities to create the widest possible employment opportunities,"said Sandiaga Uno.
