TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has started the booster rollout on January 12, 2022. It targets to inoculate people aged over 18, the elderly group, and those who are immunocompromised.

The booster or the third Covid-19 vaccination will only be given to those who have received two complete vaccine doses at least 6 months prior. In order to let antibodies properly form and avoid creating new risks, the following are activities someone should avoid doing after receiving their booster vaccine.

  1. Alcohol

Citing the Unicef website, alcohol consumption can reduce a person’s immunity and potentially disrupt the effectiveness of the body’s immune response. Beverages with alcohol are not recommended before or after taking your third vaccine dose.

  1. Smoking

Avoid smoking immediately after taking a booster jab as the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that people who smoke are at higher risk to suffer from severe infection if exposed to Covid-19.

  1. Food with High Glycemic Index

People who suffer from diabetes who take their booster shots are advised to avoid snacks or foods with a high glycemic index as it can affect the blood sugar; the higher the index, the greater the blood sugar will spike. Diet plays a vital role in building immunity. Here is the list of foods that should be avoided:

  • Sugar and sugary food
  • Sugary drink
  • White bread
  • Potato
  • White rice
  • Added sugar
  1. Fast Food

Fast foods must be avoided after taking booster shots as the trans fat contained in the majority of fast food menus is at a high level that can affect the vaccine’s efficacy.

5. Immediately Leaving Vaccination Center

The same goes for any vaccination, whether it’s your first or second dose vaccine, booster shots can also potentially cause post-immunization accidents (KIPI). The U.S. CDC suggests people who take booster shots wait 15-30 minutes at the location of the vaccination as reactions to the vaccine can immediately be handled by medical workers.

  1. Ignoring Health Protocols

Citing the UNICEF website, you shall not set aside health protocols despite already taking your share of vaccines as vaccinations do not mean you are 100 percent able to dodge potential Covid-19 infections. Continue wearing proper face masks, constantly wash your hands, and maintain safe distances with people.
