TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) has said that the number of merchant partners utilizing its Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) so far has crossed 15 million.

QRIS is the national QR code standard for facilitating payments using QR codes in Indonesia.

"The number increased from the achievement of 12 million merchants in 2021, which was our target last year," Assistant Governor and Head of Payment System Policy Department at BI Filianingsih Hendarta said at a G20 side event here on Monday.

According to Hendarta, Bank Indonesia and the Indonesia Payment System Association (ASPI) are continuing to provide incentives to merchants using QRIS, such as extending the policy of zero non-cash transaction fees, which are charged to stores, for micro-businesses until the end of June 2022.

In addition, the QRIS transaction limit has also been increased from Rp2 million per transaction to Rp5 million per transaction in order to push transactions among medium and large enterprises, she informed.

Starting from March 1, 2022, Bank Indonesia will again increase the QRIS transaction limit to Rp10 million per transaction, she added.

"These all are to support the community's consumption and various needs for larger transactions," she said.

She also revealed that Bank Indonesia is currently continuing to push for the payment electronification program, which consists of three pillars.

The first pillar is coordination with related ministries to push for the digitalization of the social assistance (bansos) program, which will be named Bansos 4.0 digitalization, she said.

Meanwhile, the second pillar is the integration of payment digitalization of transportation modes, she informed.

The third pillar is the digitization of regional government financial transactions in synergy with as many as 46 branch offices of Bank Indonesia spread across the country, she added.
