TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Covid-19 cases in the capital city of Jakarta on Tuesday have increased to 2,190 confirmed cases. According to the city’s health agency head of disease prevention and control, Dwi Oktavia, the case is dominated by local transmissions.

“New positive cases based on PCR tests have increased to 2,190 cases where 1,829 of them (83.5 percent) are from local transmissions,” Oktavia wrote in a statement on January 25.

Among these cases, 1,697 cases are confirmed to come from the Omicron variant with 1,166 coming from international travelers and 531 cases are the local transmission. This means that there are 113 Omicron cases in one day.

Moreover, active cases rose by 1,708 with 12,196 Covid-19 patients who are still being treated or undergoing isolation. A total of 10,299 active cases are local transmissions and the rest came from people returning from overseas travel.

Jakarta’s total cases amount to 883,490. Of that number, 857,688 people recovered and 13,606, unfortunately, succumbed to the disease with a 97.1 percent recovery rate and 1.5 percent mortality rate. The positivity rate reached 8.3 percent in the past week, which is still above the WHO’s recommended percentage of 5 percent or below.
