TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early weather warning for Monday, January 24. Most parts of Indonesia have the potential for heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

Based on the agency’s data, the center of low pressure was observed in the Indian Ocean, south of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), which forms a convergence area extending in the Indian Ocean, south of Sumba Island.

A cyclonic circulation was observed in the Indian Ocean west of Banten and in the Pacific Ocean north of Papua which forms a convergence area that extends from the Indian Ocean west of West Sumatra to Lampung and in the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines.

The convergence area was also observed from Riau to Bengkulu, Lampung to West Java, East Kalimantan to the Makassar Strait, the southern Banda Sea to the eastern Arafuru Sea, and from Cendrawasih Bay to Papua.

The conditions could increase the potential for rain cloud growth around the low-pressure center/cyclonic circulation area and along the convergence area.

Regions that have the potential for heavy rain that could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds include Aceh, West Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

BMKG also forecasted that regions to see a partly sunny weather in the morning were Banda Aceh, Padang, Batam, Jakarta, Surabaya, Banjarmasin, Mataram, Manado, Gorontalo, Palu, Kendari, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, and Jayapura.
