TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of COVID-19 cases in Jakarta increased by 1,739 on Sunday, January 23. The city’s Health Agency head of the disease prevention and control unit, Dwi Oktavia, said the addition of new infections was dominated by local transmission.

“New positive cases [found] based on the results of the PCR test today increase by 1,739, 1,460 of them (84 percent) are local transmissions,” said Dwi in a written statement, Sunday.

The Jakarta Health Agency noted that the number of Omicron variant cases had also increased. As of Sunday, 1,313 patients were infected with Omicron, with details of 854 foreign travelers and 459 local transmissions.

With the surge in new cases, the number of active cases rose by 1,217. Thus, the total number of patients being treated or undergoing isolation amounted to 9,057.

The past week’s virus positivity rate stood at 6.6 percent. “While the total percentage is 10.8 percent.” The World Health Organization (WHO) sets a standard at no more than 5 percent.

Dwi reported that Jakarta has thus far detected 879,307 COVID-19 cases. Of that number, 856,653 people recovered and 13,597 died, bringing the recovery rate to 97.4 percent, while the mortality rate at 1.5 percent.
