Greater Jakarta Hit by Extreme Rainfall

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Extreme rainfall struck the Greater Jakarta Area (Jabodetabek) on Tuesday for about 5 hours and inundated a number of areas. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) previously warned about the extreme weather that will likely last for the whole week.

Based on the data logged by the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), floods were monitored at Rawa Buaya, Kapuk Village, East Cengkareng, Pengadegan, Semanan, Tegal Alur Village, and West Jakarta.

BMKG data on rain distribution over Jabodetabek on January 18, at 07:00 to January 19, at 07:00, were categorized as moderate (20-50 mm/day), dense (50-100 mm/day), very dense (100-150 mm/day) to extreme (> 150 mm/day).

The highest rainfall was observed at the Kemayoran Meteorological Station of 204 mm, while the lowest was recorded in Depok 1 with an average rainfall of 39.0.

Areas that saw rainfall categorized as extreme were at the Kemayoran Meteorology Station (204mm), Teluk Gong (193mm), Tanjungan (189 mm), Pulomas (177 mm), Pantai Indah Kapuk (169), Arg Kelapa Gading (163.4 mm), Palace (157 mm), Soekarno Hatta Meteorological Station (151 mm), and Sunter Rawabadak (150 mm).
