TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Development Planning Minister Suharso Monoarfa said that the government has invested efforts towards designing a metaverse version of Indonesia's new capital city (IKN) in East Kalimantan.
"We were particularly hyped up with the hologram [of the new capital city], that is ready and we are now preparing the new capital city in the metaverse," said the Minister in a meeting with the IKN special committee on Thursday, January 13, 2020, as quoted by Antaranews.
Bappenas argued that the creation of the metaverse is a direct effect of technological development and that manifesting the new capital city within the virtual world will help the government to introduce the megaproject to the public with more clarity.
Currently, the Ministry has tasked a dedicated team to design the metaverse version of the IKN and has targeted to complete it in the next four months.
"Hopefully the Ministry will be able to show what the new capital city will look like. It will no longer be in the form of a hologram or mockup," Monoarfa said.
