President Joko Widodo has inaugurated the Mandalika Circuit, Friday, November 12, 2021. After being inaugurated, this circuit is ready to host world-class racing events, including WorldSBK Indonesia 2021 and MotoGP 2022.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in a press briefing on Monday said 90 percent of hotel rooms in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara had been booked ahead of the MotoGP race set to be held at the Mandalika Circuit on March 18-20, 2022.

The Ministry is eyeing to attract a total of 100 thousand visitors with mostly domestic tourists to the island where the FIM-approved race track is built on. However, the government is still tackling accommodation issues as Lombok only has 23 thousand units available.

“Lombok currently has 2,758 hotel rooms available that are predicted to reach 100 percent occupancy during the MotoGP event,” said Sandiaga on January 10.

Sandiaga said the Public Works and Housing Ministry (PUPR) had pledged to help provide more accommodation. The Tourism Ministry plans to open collaboration with private businesses such as Boboox and Eiger to provide temporary lodging such as camping grounds and camper vans.

“There are 300 homestays currently built and are in the process of obtaining CHSE certification,” said the Minister.

The government will also provide the Mandalika MotoGp race fans with the option of staying in nearby areas such as Bali if the accommodation in Mandalika does not suffice.
