Jakarta Adds 393 Fresh COVID-19 Cases on Sunday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Health Agency reported a hike in the number of new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, Jan. 9, at 393. The figure was obtained from the PCR tests taken in the past 24 hours.

“294 of them were detected in international travelers,” said the agency head of disease prevention and control unit, Dwi Oktavia, in a press release, Sunday.

With the fresh cases, the number of active cases rose by 281 and so 1,874 people were still undergoing medical treatment or isolation.

Dwi confirmed that the capital recorded a quite significant surge in positive infections in the past few days. Of the total active cases, 1,415 cases were imported ones.

Dwi also revealed the soaring transmission of the Omicron variant. As many as 86 percent or 350 of the total 407 people who tested positive were international travelers, while the rest 57 people were from the local transmission.

Meanwhile, the capital’s recovery rate reached 98.2 percent as 851,839 people were recovered. The death toll was recorded at 13,589, bringing the mortality rate to 1.6 percent, below the national rate of 3.4 percent.

The COVID-19 positivity rate in the last week in Jakarta was 2.0 percent, while the total percentage was 11.0 percent. WHO recommends the safe standard at less than than 5 percent.
