Majority of Jakarta Health Workers Receive COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Health Agency reported that 71,000 or 70 percent of health workers in the capital have received COVID-19 vaccine boosters to date. The agency’s head Dwi Oktavia Handayani said the additional shot will help strengthen the body's immune system from the coronavirus.
“70 percent of health workers residing in Jakarta have received the booster shot,” said Dwi to Tempo on Wednesday, January 5.
When asked about the booster shot for the general public starting January 12, Dwi said the agency is still waiting for the technical instructions from the central government, including the time gap between the second and the third shot, the age of recipients, and the type of the vaccine.
“About who will get a free booster shot or a paid one, we don’t know yet,” Dwi added.
The booster vaccination plan was first announced by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin. The vaccine, he said, will be given to adults age over 18 based on the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation.
“It (vaccine boosters) will be given at least six months after the second dose. We have identified that there are around 21 million targets in January,” said Budi Gunadi in a press conference at the Jakarta Presidential Office, January 3.
