Health Ministry Outlines People Eligible for COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHealth Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced the government will administer the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine or vaccine booster starting January 12. Who will be eligible for the booster shot?

Budi explained the booster shots will be given to adults aged over 18 years old as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

“This can be given six months after the second dose. We have identified around 21 million people targeted in January who have entered this category,” said the minister on Monday, January 3.

Besides, the booster will be available in districts/cities that have fulfilled 70 percent of the first dose vaccination target and 60 percent of the second dose vaccination target.

Cited from Bisnis.com on Monday, people who are eligible for the booster shots at 6 months or more after the second dose are:

  1. Individuals aged over 18 who have underlying medical conditions;
  2. Individuals aged over 18 who live or work in areas at a high risk of COVID-19 exposure;
  3. Individuals who have received the second dose of vaccine at least six months before the vaccine booster.

The third dose of COVID-19 vaccine is also prioritized for the elderly, people with a history of disease or comorbidities, and people with immune or autoimmune disorders.
