TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government decided to slash the mandatory quarantine period for international arrivals from 10-14 days to 7-10 days.

“It has been decided earlier that the 14-day quarantine will become 10 days and the 10-day quarantine will become seven days,” said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan at a press conference at the Jakarta Presidential Office, Monday, January 3.

The previous rule on the 10-14 day quarantine was stated in the COVID-19 Task Force Head’s Decree No. 1 of 2022 concerning entry points, quarantine centers, and RT-PCR obligations for Indonesian citizens traveling overseas.

The policy was initially set to take effect from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, due to concerns over the rise in the Omicron variant in the country.

The 14-day mandatory quarantine applied to international travelers from countries with confirmed Omicron cases and are geographically close to the country reporting the variant.

As of date, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin confirmed that Indonesia had detected 152 COVID-19 Omicron cases. Of which, six cases were of local transmission.
