TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in opening a limited meeting on Monday asked government officials to stricten the quarantine procedure for international travelers, especially after the number of Omicron cases detected in Indonesia continues to grow.

The official data as of January 2, 2022 shows there are 138 cases of Omicron transmission with 135 of them being imported cases while the rest are local transmissions.

“There must be no more quarantine dispensations. Especially for those who use money [to dodge quarantine]. Things like that should not recur,” said the President in the meeting that evaluated the public activity restriction (PPKM) enactment on January 3.

The President also requested the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to monitor the quarantine process.

In the meeting, the President called for government officials to establish thorough preparations to face a possible spike in Omicron cases.

“Prepare the healthcare facilities we already have, both in the central and regional levels. Because a local transmission has already happened. We must prepare a mitigation procedure again,” said Jokowi.
