2 Earthquakes Strike West Nusa Tenggara: BMKG

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has been struck by two earthquakes with a magnitude 3.2 earthquake striking the region at 09:41 WIB and magnitude 4.2 at 20:45 WIB January 2.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced that the two quakes originated from the sea, 35 kilometers off the coast of Dompu at the depth of 100 kilometers below the ocean surface.
Both earthquakes were classified at the MMI III scale.
Meanwhile, the agency also reported a magnitude 5.0 quake happening early this morning on January 3 which originated from 8.1 kilometers Northwest of West Halmahera, North Maluku with a hypocenter of 43 kilometers. This quake was not felt on the earth’s surface.
The agency said Indonesia was struck by a total of 10,570 earthquake activities, which is a significant rise compared to 2020 which logged 8,264 earthquakes.
