TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Transportation Office and the province's bus rapid transit TransJakarta reiterated their commitment to implementing safety recommendations issued by the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) to address safety issues and recurring accidents during TransJakarta bus operations.

"Our office and the TransJakarta management is committed to implementing NTSC's safety recommendations and proceeding with the necessary adjustments," Jakarta Transportation Office Head Syafrin Liputo stated in East Jakarta on Wednesday.

Any adjustments to the safety recommendation will not hinder its implementation, the office head remarked while expressing optimism for the employees' support and prompt implementation to improve TransJakarta's safety.

Meanwhile, NTSC's traffic and road transportation investigation sub-committee acting head, Ahmad Wildan, revealed that the committee had issued a recommendation to improve TransJakarta's operations in four aspects: risk management, bus fleet, bus drivers, and bus routes.

Regarding the risk management aspect, the committee proposed the TransJakarta management to establish a new department in charge of risk management and safety assurance duties, he stated.

"The existing unit handling the duties must be expanded. We expect the department to be headed by a director that comes under the direct command of TransJakarta's president director," Wildan stated.

The NTSC also suggested TransJakarta to enact an adaptive standard operational procedure for bus crew competence and bus roadworthiness on account of the diverse bus types operated by TransJakarta, right from the conventional buses to electric-powered ones, the acting head remarked.

Speaking in connection with the bus route safety, the NTSC proposed the Greater Jakarta Transportation Authority to conduct route mapping on TransJakarta's routes, including those outside the dedicated lanes and toll roads, he noted, adding that the NTSC and TransJakarta management had concluded the route mapping on TransJakarta's 13 bus routes.

"We discovered several risk hazards in TransJakarta's dedicated lanes, and we urge the management to create a comprehensive route map for routes outside the dedicated lanes," Wildan noted.

Wildan remarked that the committee also suggested the TransJakarta management to reassess the Indonesian National Work Competence Standard (SKKNI) and professional certification scheme for bus drivers.

"The National Agency for Professional Certification (BNSP) will collaborate with TransJakarta and other stakeholders in reassessing the SKKNI and professional certification scheme for bus drivers to ensure complete implementation of our recommendation," the acting head stated.

The NTSC team was dispatched to investigate TransJakarta bus operations following several accidents that involved TransJakarta buses and caused injuries and damage to property.
