TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police have completed the case of a Transjakarta bus accident that hit a pedestrian in Ragunan. Head of Sub-Directorate of Law Enforcement, Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Argo Wiyono, confirmed that the driver with the initials YK was not a suspect.
"The driver concerned does not have enough elements to become a suspect," he said when interviewed on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Argo said that the incident did not meet the elements of Article 310 Paragraph 4 of the Road Traffic and Transportation Law.
The reason is that the distance between the bus and the victims of the pedestrians is very close, about 4 meters. With the speed of the bus at that time, around 30 kilometers per hour, braking was impossible.
"The minimum braking distance is 14 meters if the road is wet and 10 meters if it's dry," said Argo.
The second reason is that the Transjakarta bus driver who drives in a special lane does not have a wide range of motion. If he dodges to the left, said Argo, he will hit the separator, while to the right there is a barrier.
In addition, the victim crossed neither a zebra crossing nor a pedestrian bridge. "About 50 meters from the scene there is a pedestrian bridge. The Transjakarta route is sterile, so the driver does not know that someone will cross," said Argo.
The Transjakarta bus accident in Ragunan occurred on Monday night, December 6, 2021 at around 21:50 WIB (Western Indonesia Time). At the time of the incident, the bus driven by the driver with the initials YK was on his way back to the pool in Klender, East Jakarta. At the accident scene, a pedestrian named RH suddenly crossed in front of the bus that was speeding.
The crash was unavoidable and the victim was thrown several meters from the location. The victim of the accident being hit by a Transjakarta bus was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), Central Jakarta, but his life was not saved.
