TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Pandjaitan in attending an event on Monday addressed the public discourse often mentioning him as the Minister of every affairs.

He explained that it is the consequence of involving multiple Ministries and government instances after receiving a mandate from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Antaranews reported.

“I always try to solve issues holistically, which means involving a variety of Ministries and state instances. That could be the reason people say that ‘Luhut is the Minister of all affairs.’ I am actually not. That just comes from people who don’t understand management and how to handle issues,” said Pandjaitan in attending the virtual national consolidation of the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI) on December 20.

Luhut then used the moment to motivate members of the movement and urged GAMKI to take part as an agent of change for economic movement amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. “I urge you to become youths with character. And I hope it is in all of you,” he added.

Moreover, he claims Indonesia successfully controls the spread of Covid-19 even though the government will continue to tread carefully in the face of future possibilities. He also says constant monitoring is done through the implementation of leveled public activity restriction (PPKM) based on empirical data.

He believes the use of scientific data is a crucial process and said “If there were people criticizing me in the past, stating that I am not an epidemiologist, well epidemiologists are not the only ones solving this issue. That is what makes people wrong,” Luhut Pandjaitan said.
