TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) President Said Iqbal in today’s joint rally said workers planned to go on national strike if the government does not meet their demands. Two million workers attended the rally from 60 national trade union federations working in 100 factories.

One of the demands voiced by the workers is the revision of the Jakarta Gubernatorial Decree on the provincial minimum wage or UMP 2021, which is related to the Constitutional Court’s ruling that the Job Creation Law or Law No. 11/2020 is conditionally unconstitutional.

“Two million workers can stop the production. Everyone will lose, the economy will be paralyzed,” said Said on Wednesday, December 8. “We will not do that if the government seriously implements the Constitutional Court’s order.”

He said the rally, which was planned to be held on December 6-10, would likely expand if the government is reluctant to apply the court's decision.

The workers also urged Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to pay his pledge to raise the provincial minimum wage. Based on Government Regulation No. 36/2021, Jakarta's UMP in 2022 will only be increased by Rp37,749 or 0.85 percent to Rp4,453,935 per month.
