TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Badminton World Federation (BWF) President Poul-Erick Hoyer last weekend apologized to the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) chair Raja Sapta Oktohari regarding what happened at the All England 2021 earlier this year in March. This was mentioned in a press statement issued by Oktohari on Tuesday.

Hoyer made the apology after watching the men's doubles final match at the BWF World Tour Finals 2021 in Nusa Dua, Bali, last weekend, Antaranews reported.

In response to his apology, Oktohari said he had no personal problems with the BWF and was mainly defending the interests of Indonesian athletes, who at that time, were forced to withdraw from the tournament. .

"I have no personal problems. But as a representative of Indonesia in the field of sports who also represents the public, it was only natural that I defended the interests of athletes," said Raja Sapta Oktohari on December 7, “The All England incident was the first time for BWF to apologize because it had never happened before."

The incident that happened to the Indonesian team at the All England began when each and every Indonesian player was forced to withdraw from the tournament after they unknowingly shared a flight with passengers exposed to Covid-19. This forced the players to follow UK Health Agency's regulations and undergo a 14-day quarantine, effectively missing the tournament.
