TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Covid-19 vaccination spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmidzi on Thursday said the national vaccination rate is still far from the set target by the end of this year. She argues that the vaccine disbursement is hampered by challenging conditions in the field.

“As of now, dose 1 vaccines have started to enter challenging areas as 33 percent of those unvaccinated are rural areas and islands. It is indeed a major challenge to cover the remaining target,” said Tarmidzi on Thursday, December 2.

To this day, Nadia said the government has administered 140.5 million first dose vaccines that constitute 67.48 percent of the national goal, which is still short of the 80 percent first dose vaccination goal before the end of 2021.

Meanwhile, the second dose vaccinations have reached 96.8 million people or 46.51 percent. This is still short of the national goal of 60 percent.

Ahead of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo instructed for the acceleration of vaccinations, especially after the newly-discovered coronavirus variant dubbed the Omicron.
