TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Independent data initiative LaporCOVID-19 stated that Jakarta and West Java are the two provinces providing a good ecosystem of the COVID-19 data site. “In general, the two provinces present fairly compact data with informative data visualization,” LaporCOVID-19 reported in a statement, Tuesday, November 30.

The team explained Jakarta has consistently provided COVID-19 data in an easy-to-download form, namely Google spreadsheets, up to the village level and daily data. Besides, the capital also presented the vaccination progress data as of the date.

Meanwhile, West Java’s COVID-19 site that is commonly known as Pikobar published quite systematic and open data and information to various parties as they are available for download with the option of CSV, XLSX, and even API formats, which could make it easier for people to use the data.

The forum, however, assessed that Jakarta and West Java’s sites would be even better if considering several things. It was suggested that Jakarta could again display the data table with a value of N/A at the sub-district level in the previous format and West Java could consistently quote the source of the numbers presented in the data per region.

LaporCOVID-19 team lamented poor data collection of COVID-19 cases in regions in the midst of the threat of a third wave. “Besides not being updated, a number of regional sites are not even active anymore,” the team said.

Based on monitoring until November 29, the team found only 20 provincial sites that regularly present updated daily COVID-19 data, while the other 14 provincial sites are still facing issues.

Regarding the availability of downloadable data, LaporCOVID-19 found that only 3 provinces presented this, viz. Jakarta, West Java, and West Sumatra. “90 percent of provincial sites do not provide downloadable COVID-19 data. This makes it difficult for researchers to process the data,” said the team.
