Jokowi Urges Investment Services to Heed Smaller Investors

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday urged regional administrations and one-stop integrated services (PTSP) to not discriminate between investors and said services for new potential investors should be improved, whether small, medium, or large-sized investors.
“Small businesses are also investors. Don’t imagine investors to exclusively be foreign and large-sized. Once an investment pops up, there will be more money in circulation,” said the President in the national coordination meeting on investments in Jakarta on November 24.
The President asserted that investments can take the role to strengthen economic growth amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and that it is one of the most reliable sources for the State Budget (APBN), which is currently burdened in covering costs to recover the national economy.
He also ordered governors and mayors to set a target for PTSPs to issue permits for smaller investors. “Once they hold permits, it will be easier for them to access finance institutions and banks,” said Jokowi. “Even if we provide great services [investments] don’t necessarily arrive, let alone those we do not serve.”
