TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police (Polri) spokesperson Insp. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo on Tuesday announced that the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) requested two police officers to fill two positions in the agency, with one of them being the deputy of enforcement.

“They asked for support from the Polri,” said Prasetyo at the Polri headquarters on November 23.

Moreover, he explained that the positions that will be filled by active police personnel are newly formed positions and claims were inspired by the drug monitoring agency structure in the United States. He implied that the BPOM will later send the official request.

Later on, despite already having prosecution deputies, the BPOM will continue to put forth development and that enforcement is designed to be the last resort against businesses that do not follow rules.

Dedi said this has been informed to the Polri Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo and that it has been given the green light. The positions will likely be filled by members at the level of inspector general and Brigadier Generals.

The people chosen to fill the positions will later have to be approved by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
