TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina Corporate Secretary Subholding Commercial and Trading, Irto Ginting, on Tuesday responded to the public call from SOEs Minister Erick Thohir who requested the state-energy firm to make its gas station toilets free of charge.

“We would like to thank the input from the Minister and everyone who contributed to making Pertamina even better,” said Irto to Tempo on November 23.

He explains that toilets are standard services in Pertamina gas stations, which is why he will coordinate again with gas station owners to improve its services, or in other words, will ask management to provide free of charge toilet services.

“And give heed to its hygiene and convenience,” Irto added.

Previously reported, State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir in his Instagram post highlighted the issue of paying for using public toilet facilities in Pertamina service stations. As mentioned in the video upload, he directly requested the state-energy firm’s higher ups to make toilets free of charge.

“To Pertamina directors, I expect public facilities such as these toilets should be free because managers already [generate income] from gas sales, moreover, there are grocery stores. The public should receive an added facility,” said the Minister in the video he posted to his personal social media account on November 22.

His request is based on the situation in the field as the video shows him visiting a Pertamina service station located in Probolinggo. However, based on the exchange between Erick and the clerk, the gas station is one that is run privately.
