North Sumatra Hit by Moderate Earthquake, BMKG Reports

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Sumatran region of Nias in the early hours of Tuesday was struck by a magnitude 5.0 earthquake, according to the latest report from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) today.
The agency reported that the quake happened at dawn, 04:15 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) with its epicenter 118 kilometers offshore, southwest of West Nias. Fortunately, they report that it had not triggered a tsunami warning.
BMKG reports that it was from a depth (hypocenter) of 10 kilometers and was only felt in the West Nias area measured at the III MMI intensity scale.
The region was last hit by a similar relatively strong quake on November 2 when a magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook the region in the morning and was followed up by a magnitude 5.0 aftershock in the evening.
Both of the previous earthquakes had a similar depth and epicenter with the latest one.
