TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced it would host observations for tonight’s partial lunar eclipse from Indonesia’s southernmost region of Aceh to Papua in the east on November 19, 2021.

BMKG astronomer Rukman Nugraha said on Friday that people could watch the entire observation from the agency’s website https://www.bmkg.go.id/gerhana.

The partial lunar eclipse online feed will start from Papua and West Papua at 18:02 Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT) and immediately enter the peak lunar eclipse phase.

“The longest visible phase of the lunar eclipse will happen in Waris, Papua, which will last for two hours and 21 minutes and 13 seconds,” said Rukman in his social media post. “During the peak eclipse, the moon will seem darker and slightly red.”

Indonesian regions in the Western hemisphere will be able to observe the closing phases of the lunar eclipse. The following regions will be able to observe the entirety of the process: Maluku, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Nusa Tenggara, Bali, and partial East Java regions.
