TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the capital is ready to again tighten COVID-19 rules during the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays.

It is in line with the re-enactment of PPKM Level 3 in all regions of Indonesia, including Jakarta which is now under the PPKM Level 1.

“Places (tourist attractions and restaurants) will adjust [to tighter PPKM]. We are grateful that the potential for PPKM Level 3 has been announced,” said Riza at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Friday, November 19.

Riza explained the COVID-19 curbs will last for a week, and so his side fully supports the central government policy in an effort to prevent a spike in positive cases or a third wave.

“[It aims at] ensuring no increase in cases at the end and beginning of next year," said Riza Patria.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy earlier announced that the government will impose PPKM Level 3 for all regions throughout Indonesia during the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays. A number of activities will be prohibited, including lighting fireworks as celebrations, parades, and other activities that attract large crowds.
