TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) chairman of the working committee for the sexual violence prevention and handling bill (RUU TPKS), Willy Aditya, confirmed that sentences regarding sexual consent are removed from the bill.

“We have decided that the phrase 'consent' to be eliminated. There is no longer phrase sexual consent in the bill,” said the legislator on Wednesday, November 17.

He said the public do need not worry because the bill is not a product of legislation that legalizes sexual freedom and same-sex relationships. He asserted that the Working Committee drafted the bill carefully and thoroughly.

During the Working Committee’s Meeting on November 17, he admitted that there were debates related to several controversial articles in the bill, such as articles 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.

“Articles 5, 6, and 7 have been discussed. We are carefully drafting the bill,” he said.

He added that the Working Committee will hold another meeting to discuss the materials in the bill and confirm which articles are still deemed controversial.

According to Willy, there are about 4-5 points left in the sexual violence prevention and handling bill to be agreed upon at the committee level. “We’ll conduct more dialogues so that a decision can be taken on November 25, 2021, as scheduled,” he said.
