TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is blessed with hordes of tourist destinations, among them are limestone hills: picturesque spots for photos, background pictures and exquisite sceneries. There are two popular hills in Indonesia, Jaddih Hill in Madura and Breksi Cliff in Yogyakarta.

Jaddih Hill is located in Jaddih village, Madura and approximately 10 and 28 km from the downtowns of Bangkalan regency and Surabaya, respectively.

Previously a mining area, the hill’s condition is arid with lots of dust and a high temperature, thus visitors are advised to wear face masks.

Aside from offering a striking set of stonewalls, it also boasts a lake that was formed due to limestone mining. At the depth of 2.5 meters, visitors can ride a boat to enjoy its beauty. There is also a cave on this hill, but it is off-limits to visitors due to its weak structure. Surrounding the hill are public facilities such as restrooms and restaurants run by locals.

Yogyakarta, meanwhile, has Breksi cliff, a geoheritage known for the founding of ancient stones.

At the height of 30 meters, its walls feature wayang reliefs depicting Arjuna killing Buto Cakil, a dragon with a crown and a Semar statue.

The cliff is rich in whiteness due to its previous use for limestone mine. It's also divided into several parts such as Tlatar Seneng that is used to host Campursari Music Festival, dance performances, etc.

Visitors often visit at dusk or dawn to see the sun from atop the cliff. Aside from the scenery, this cliff, which is often used for pre-wedding photos, is also a preferred tourist destination for avid wall climbers. Breksi cliff is located in Sambirejo village, 15 km away from Yogyakarta's town centre.
