Anies Baswedan Says Health Workers, Graveyard Keepers Today's Heroes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan considers people involved in the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic as modern-day heroes. They include health workers, graveyard keepers, up to those who create applications for registration of vaccinations.
“So today we are shown examples of modern-day heroes,” said Anies at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, November 10.
The provincial government commemorated National Heroes’ Day which falls every November 10 by holding a ceremony at the City Hall this morning. The governor acted as the inspector of the ceremony.
During his speech, he mentioned that there are many individuals who deserve to be called heroes. But on the other hand, there are also many groups of people who prioritize personal interests amid this continuing pandemic.
He emphasized that those people seek profit for themselves, such as oxygen cylinder smugglers and drug hoarders. “That is an example of people who betray the nation and humanity,” said Anies.
Anies Baswedan further hoped that his staffers can learn from the two contrast groups, calling on all to act like the heroes who put the interests of many people first.
