TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday led the national pilgrimage (ziarah nasional) in commemorating the national heroes remembrance day or heroes day held at the National Heroes Cemetery (TMP) in South Jakarta.
The ceremony that was held in a simple way and under strict health protocols opened with the honoring of the late heroes by the ceremonial commander followed by sounding a siren to mark the moment of silence for one minute in remembering the November 10, 1945 battle in Surabaya.
Jokowi, acting as the ceremonial inspector placed bouquets at the site and led the prayers for the passed heroes along with Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.
In the President’s personal Instagram post wrote that challenges of current times persist but said society remains as sturdy as a coral rock. “We pulled through the crises, recession, and pandemic because of the warriors who were always present at times in need,” the President wrote.
