Jakarta Deputy Gov Backs Govt's Decision on Canceling Christmas Leave

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said he understood the reasons behind the central government's decision to cancel the Christmas collective leave day on December 24, that was in a bid to anticipate the COVID-19 third wave.
“We understand the central government’s policies. What’s important is that the public must be ready at the end of the year,” said Riza at the City Hall on Thursday, October 28.
He agreed with the central government’s policy on the elimination of the pre-Christmas leave day over concerns that it will increase public mobility which has the potential to create crowds and lead to COVID-19 spread.
Riza hoped that the policy could curb public mobility and crowds. “By suppressing mobility, we hope there will be no third wave by the end of this year,” he added.
The government decided to cancel the annual collective leave day on December 24, 2021, in an effort to suppress public mobility to prevent a spike in COVID-19 transmission. The government also prohibits state civil servants (ASN) from taking leave days during national holidays, including Christmas.
