TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Tuesday announced a magnitude 3.9 tectonic earthquake had struck the West Java region of Garut at 05:23 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).

The agency said the epicenter was at Java sea, 96 kilometers Southwest of Bandung Regency, at the depth of 29 kilometers. It was located at 7.85 degrees south latitude and 107.28 degrees east longitude.

They assured that the quake has zero potential of causing a tsunami as it was categorized as a shallow earthquake.

According to BMKG, the quake was caused by activities from the inner part of the Eurasian plate and shook the region, categorized at the II-III MMI intensity scale. So far, no damages have been reported.
