Papua PON: Lifter Nurul Akmal Wins Gold, Breaks National Record

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National weightlifter who competed at the Tokyo Olympics, Nurul Akmal, won the gold medal for Aceh at the National Games Week (PON) in Papua, or Papua PON, on Saturday, October 9. She also broke a new record in weightlifting's +87 kg class.

Competed in the women's +87 kg class, Nurul Akmal collected a total weightlifting of 258 kg; 116 kg at the snatch and 142 kg at the clean and jerk game.

Nurul's total snatch at Papua Pon became a new national record. She broke her own record of 113 kg at Qatar Cup in Doha, Qatar, on December 23, 2019.

The 28 years old athlete managed to defeat her rivals, namely Riska Oktaviana from West Kalimantan, Jihan Syafitri from Jambi, Wuri Hasanah from West Kalimantan, and Rena Ilasari from Riau.

Nurul undoubtedly succeded to lift 101 kg, 107 kg and 116 kg at the snatch game. Meanwhile, at the clean and jerk, she lifted 131 kg, 136 kg and 142 kg smoothly.

The difference of the scores was far from the silver medalist from West Kalimantan who managed to collect a total weighlifting of 223 kg (116 kg snatch, and 142 kg at the clean and jerk).
