Smesco Preps Export Hub for MSME Products of East Indonesia in Bali

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Teten Masduki said the ministry’s agency for MSMEs, Smesco Indonesia, is preparing an export hub for MSME products from eastern areas of Indonesia in Bali.
“Smesco is preparing an export hub for MSME products from eastern Indonesia in Bali,” said Teten in an online discussion in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 28.
According to the minister, the world's demand for herbal products, such as essential oils and marine-based products, is currently high. The export hub, he added, was expected to showcase MSME products that go international.
“Even MSMEs that do not have export permits can export [their products in] retail as we have cooperated with shipping service companies so that this can remain efficient,” Teten explained.
He added that the ministry would take advantage of upcoming global events such as MotoGP and G20 Summit in Indonesia to promote Indonesian SMEs products to go global.
However, Teten Masduki acknowledged various obstacles in export trade, starting from production capacity to the availability of containers. The cross-ministerial economic recovery committee, he said, is still discussing the solution.
