TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia’s Jakarta Representative Office Head Onny Widjanarko said the economic growth of the capital in the second quarter of 2021 was 10.91 percent year-on-year (yoy).

The city’s economic growth was said to be higher than the nation's.

“It is improving compared to the previous quarter, which contracted by 1.91 percent year-on-year,” said Onny at the Jakarta Economic Report Dissemination event on Monday, September 27.

Onny explained Jakarta's economic development was supported by all components of expenditure, including the growth of household consumption at 8.46 percent, government consumption at 23.59 percent, gross fixed capital formations (PMTB) at 5.36 percent, exports at 22.79 percent, and imports at 22.81 percent.

Jakarta also experienced inflation in August 2021 after two months of deflation, he informed. Meanwhile, the Jakarta Consumer Price Index (CPI) as of August 2021, Onny went on, also showed a slight increase. However, the increase was still lower than that in 2020.

“This indicates that public demand is improving slightly,” Onny said of Jakarta's economic growth.
