TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Association of University Student Executive Bodies (BEM SI) has gathered in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters located in Kuningan, South Jakarta, to protest against the controversial termination of 57 KPK employees.

Hundreds of student protesters from multiple universities arrived this noon at the KPK headquarters. Police have mobilized 1,200 personnel to guard the rally and restrict student activities in a certain location near the anti-graft commission headquarters.

Prior to protesting the firing of the 57 KPK employees, students have also sent a letter to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to act upon the situation and address the issues surrounding the controversial civic knowledge test (TWK) used as the basis of the termination.

BEM SI also urges the President to inaugurate the 57 KPK employees who failed to pass the test and considers their termination on September 30 as a way to get rid of the employees. The association gave 3 days for the President to act.
